City of Fort Lauderdale's one-time amnesty program runs until May 30, 2008
The City of Fort Lauderdale has a deal for drivers holding unpaid parking tickets: "Pay off tickets now and the City will waive late fees of up to $20 each, or ignore the amnesty offer and risk getting the dreaded boot."
The boot is a forbidding-looking metal device that locks onto the wheels of a vehicle to prevent movement. The City plans to step-up use of the persuasive boot to target repeat offenders.
Unpaid tickets can also result in blocked renewal of license plates.
Penalties and punishment can be avoided. The City's one-time amnesty program runs from April 1 to May 30, 2008 and penalties will be waived if payment is received during this 60-day period. Payments received before or after these dates will not qualify for the amnesty program.
